I Have Been Thinking About SoulsA Story by PrudenceObservations on being human
Some think of heaven as the cotton ball kingdom filled with people in
white robes with golden halos. For others, it’s like a train station
with people coming and going…back and forth, changing seats and forms
until they reach the pinnacle and finally find home. I don’t believe in
a heaven, or hell, for that matter. I believe in energy. I believe
there is an ocean filled with the life force that catches spark in
little piles of twigs. It’s not divided into shapes until, like a rain
drop in a cloud, a small bit becomes heavy and falls. That is when the
‘we’ becomes ‘I’ and I am separate. Each form has found a way to exist
alone until it, he, she becomes part of the ocean again.
From what I can observe, humans spent the infancy of civilization as part of a collective. What is good for the village is good. The concept of individuality took hold slowly. People were buried in communal graves because, as in life, the individual was not recognized. As the civilized world grew out of it’s crib and started to assert itself, the notion of ‘I’ became a powerful force. The respect that had been given to the world was now something an individual demanded for him/her self. Considering we spend our lives in our own fleshy shells, I can see the appeal of personal dignity and respect. However, I believe it is this separation that leads to problems. We stop seeing ourselves as part of a species. We fail to recognize the spark in the world, the same spark that is within us, and we dismiss its importance because ‘it’ is not ‘us’. I see all aspects of the world as cyclical. I believe civilization is in its late adolescence…shaking its fist, demanding to be heard. The attitude of ‘If you don’t see the world as I do, then you are saying I’m wrong’ still prevails in our society. However, I also see a maturing around the edges. What was golden is now starting to turn platinum and, one day, will be silver with age. Hopefully this maturity will set in before we drive like James Dean around a curve too fast, leaving a beautiful corpse. Back to souls, I believe the energy is recycled just like everything else in nature. Maybe the concept of reincarnation come from the vibrations left in a drop of energy from the last time it was separated from the whole. Greater minds than mine have pondered these questions. Greater minds than mind have set forth a code of living that threatens to destroy every form of this life force. I’m sure it has been destroyed and reassembled before. All I can do is peek out from my individually wrapped container and wonder. © 2014 Prudence |
