Grind

Grind

A Poem by John Mallett
"

Rinse and Repeat

"
Bells ring
sleep done
open blinds
see sun
get dressed
nice shirt
shades of gray
new shoes hurt
start car
first gear
foot down
roads clear
minutes later
traffic jam
radio
its a plan
late to work
rush through
secretary
ignores you
get to desk
computer on
log in
switch on
tick tock
goes the clock
eyes hurt
what a shock
day spent
click click
another done
real slick
works done
back in car
traffic stretches
too far
get indoors
see wife
be polite
save the strife
eat tea
drink wine
wife ask's
say I'm fine
go to bed
no sex
lie awake
pass the test
next day
as before
same thing
and that's all.

Author's Note

John Mallett
Written about the grind of everyday life, far from my best piece, was experimenting with the impact of rhythm on a poem.
