Heaven's Lost ScopeA Poem by Pierce BryantGirl that couldn't be achievedSo close by sea, May the racing sun be late in its rise As I hold you, Never inferior, Beneath the night’s sparkling eyes. Sand so warm, Stars holding their shine. From this place, I could never let flee from mind. How fair you were upon first glance, and how beautiful you became when I dared take a second. I wonder what kind of world we live in when they offer praise to scientific discovery or descriptions of uncharted lands, Yet in none of their great works have I ever found your name mentioned. And though like Moses to the Promised Land, Never was he to breath its air, or grow rich and fat from its incomparable soil, He was only to look upon it, see it, bear witness to that which men could only describe as heaven in their time. I too now share the same shame, as I watch her pass by, The Heaven of my own time.
