We

We

A Poem by piccolabeth

We found a place together -
A wall hung low against an arch of grass.
We lolled in conversation,
Averting gaze and mutual gaze,
Groping in the dark for words.

We swayed like flies in a wind,
Forging sobriety, like a blacksmith with an anvil,
Pounding through the hours with heat and sweat and tears.

We fell through the depths
Of silvery moon-dusted waters reflected in eyes
That waxed and waned,
Avoiding the haze and the mutual haze
Of Stella under the bridge.
We moulded like a blanket from the frost.
The forced compatibility of a man and a woman,
Beating through the years with hate and sweet and tears.
