Low in death

Low in death

A Poem by Phonetics

Sinking sinking
Down down
So low,
Lower than the
Reverent bows
And the prostration to
The Gods in temples,
Lower than the earth’s mantle
And the deepest trench of the ocean,
Way beneath the aching heart
Or bottomless grief,
I lie in my numbness.

Day and seasons
Merge into
a single mantra
That is muttered mutedly
Beneath the breath of life.
Slowly oh so slowly,
I am decaying away
At existence’s core,
Some parasite eating
My vitality
And thirst to live again -
A single eternal death
That doesn’t fade
But sticks to the skin
And swallows you whole.
