The Knife

The Knife

A Poem by Phoenix Poetry
"

First cut is always the hardest

"
There was once a time when I would have
Done anything in the world for you,
There was once a time when I would have
Given my life for you and the worst part
About all of this is that you know it all
Which makes what you did all that more
Unforgivable and painful at the same time,
You took what we had and you somehow managed
To stab me in the heart and back with it
At the very same time,
How you managed to make a knife out of everything
That we had together I don't know and quite honestly
I don't want to know either,
It will just make it harder for me to pull the knife that
You stabbed in me if I understood the reason why,
The part that hurts the most is the fact that you're standing
In front of me and telling me that you want to start over and
Repair what you broke without the slightest bit of understanding of
Just exactly what you did to me when you decided to turn
Your back on everything that we had,
You're the one that decided to make the knife that
Stabbed me in the first place,
You're the one that burned the bridge that we built together
Throughout the years and yet you can't understand why I
Refuse to have anything to do with you,
You say that turning my back on you is like
Stabbing you repeatedly in the chest and
You expect me to feel regret about that,
The truth of the matter is that I'm happy that I'm
Doing to you exactly what you did to me because it's
About time you realized just how the
Knife felt when you stabbed me with it
