Red ConvictA Poem by Travis "Phoenix" CaldwellA poem about the penal system troops in World War Two on the eastern front. Penal troops were convicts who were put into combat and would redeem themselves in blood....theirs or the enemies.Come out your cell convict, your chance at redemption is at hand! By order of Comrade Stalin, help push the Fascists out of the Motherland! By Order 227, turn back and you will be shot! Much more preferable to die then being in a cell waiting to rot! March through rubble, endure the cold, and walk through mud, Kill the fascist or die trying and be redeemed in either his or your own blood! We are pinned, go draw the fire of the hidden sharpshooter, While others can take from the enemies buildings, you can and will be shot as looters, No glory awaits if you survive, for the end you may not live to see, The only reward you pathetic scum can have is the right to be free! Go now convict, your chance of freedom is at hand, go and give your life for the Motherland!
