The Healer's GuardianA Chapter by Phoenixprologue of 'The Contraband
It will give you background knowledge on the characters. Theodore
Gavin was a well-known and feared name amongst the supernatural
community. He was one of their most respected leaders, and had a high
position on The Assembly. But in the human world, during 1794, he was
nobody, as far as people in high places go.
He was just known as a rich man who rode into town during late afternoon just before the shops were closed. He intimidated everyone with his respect-demanding appearance, but was not rude in any way. One fateful night he met a girl. She had beautiful curling black hair that reached passed her shoulders, and crystal blue eyes that were so pale and enchanting! Her skin was porcelain and her body fragile-looking. She wore a simple black gown that day they met. Theodore knew he was in love with this girl then and there. She fell for him too. As they got to know each other and grew closer, Theodore feared about how to tell her that he was a vampire. But he never had to. She saw him at the next Assembly meeting weeks later and was thrilled. The two were to get married a week later. They did with pleasure because the woman was also part of a rich family who sought more power and wealth which Theodore happily provided. Within a year, they had a baby boy. He took after his mother, black fuzz growing out of his head and those pale blue eyes! Theodore couldn’t be happier. Then one tragic night, a riot broke out. The townsfolk under the direction of a human enemy of Theodore’s came and set fire to the house. Theodore had been out at an Assembly meeting and his wife had stayed home with their son, Jeremiah. As Theodore arrived, he smelled the smoke and saw the now-burnt-down mansion. A few persistent flames still flickered. In agony he zoomed through the house and found his wife, charred and dead. Burned alive. He searched the house and found his son, hidden under the sink, wet from the burst pipe.... Alive. Theodore vowed that day that no human would ever harm another supernatural being again. To ensure this he set about building a country. One that would harbor all the Assembly abiding vampires. It was well-hidden in the mountains by the ocean, completely surrounded and protected. No human could ever penetrate through the witch-set barrier unless they were supernatural or a witch altered the spell for them. Special collars were made for food-humans. They quickly stopped the slavery after the beginning of the eighteenth century for fear of being found out. Jeremiah continued to grow. He grew older each century until his twenty-first birthday when his human cells died. He was now a full vampire, stuck on his twenty-first birthday. Jeremiah grew up resenting humans as much as his father, but for a different reason: he saw them as food and worthless lives easy to lose. In other words, he was cruel and self-centered, narrow-minded and often pictured as relentless. Like his father he gained a favored position with the Assembly. He was generally pleased with his life until one day when everything changed. One day he would never forget. Not even as he lost all he’d ever known. Not even as he lost the one person who understood him. Not even on the day he died. This day would be remembered to him for all eternity. © 2013 PhoenixAuthor's Note
