Antediluvian History of Vampires Social Structure and Oligarchy
A vampire is a species of Supernatural Creatures that are undead. They
are classified as immortals with no specific mortality rate unless
purposefully killed. In the city of Schydar, The Oligarch Council is
their primary form of governing.
Physical Description
A
vampire’s skin is livid, pale and chilling to the touch; it is also
hard and marble-like. When well fed, their cheeks flush pink with color
and they appear more mortal-like even with warmer skin, although they
never can pull-off the completely alive look.
A vampire’s eyes
are piercing- those who fear them do not look in their eyes out of fear
of a hypnotic spell being cast upon them. The lips of a vampire are
permanently stained red on the older ones, a pair of retractable fangs
being to their disposal and replacing their canine teeth. When fully
extended the fangs are one inch long on each side, though their color is
not necessarily white as the teeth of a vampire are still subject to
staining if they are not brushed with bleach.
A vampire’s hair
does not grow and remains the length it was when they were mortal; if it
is cut, the hair will not return and it will be as it was cut for all
of eternity. A vampire does not age after being turned, and as such
their hair does not gray nor does it fall out. Their fingernails,
toenails and teeth are as hard as diamonds. A vampire does not sweat or
salivate and they do not necessarily have to breathe; the older a
vampire is the less likely they will exercise their dead lungs, unless
of course attempting to appear human.
Their hearts do not beat
and none of their organs function- once turned a vampire they are
impotent and unable to bare children; this also leaves them immune to
all human illnesses. If exposed to the sun long enough to scar, a
vampire’s skin will turn burnt and crispy, permanently disfiguring them
and creating a weakness in their skin to it is akin to limestone rather
than a previous hardened invincible marble; tiny hairs will sprout on
their burnt skin making the afflicted areas appear fuzzy. Even a
disfigured vampire emits lust, though a different sort that is more
easily resisted by those who can recognize it.
Index of Vampire Powers and Abilities
Vampire Lust
Vampire
Lust is the ability to increase lust in an individual, it is also
sometimes named ‘Glamour’. It is an voluntary function and efforts can
be made to sharpen and strengthen this lust to the vampire’s advantage.
Vampire’s lust, if strong enough, can sometimes secede orientation and
cause a human or other species to become attracted to the vampire when
they otherwise might not be because of gender preferences. For example, a
regularly heterosexual human under the pull of Vampire Lust could show
homosexual tendencies and feelings, but these would subside once they
were no longer in the presence of the vampire using it.
Mind Reading (Telepathy)
Mind
reading is the ability to communicate telepathically within someone
elses’ mind without speaking out loud. It is similar to speaking
normally but it would be done inside one’s head, as if a person were
thinking to themselves. A vampire has the ability to send a message to
anyone- even humans who do not have the gift of telepathy. They are also
able to read the mind of individuals and hear any thoughts that are
going on about their head. Mind reading also extends the other way, they
are able to more easily receive the messages of others. Through mind
reading one is able to speak, but also share thoughts, feelings and
memories of the past at a lightning fast speed.
Memory Sharing Details
The
sharing of memories is not in real time- this means that if one were to
send a memory to someone that had taken exactly 30 minutes when the
memory in question actually occurred, it would not take 30 minutes for
it to send or the receiver of the memory to receive and interpret it.
Most memories can be processed within seconds of receiving it, no matter
the length of the actual event that is being revisited. A memory is
usually in first person- but that is not always the case. If one were to
read someone’s mind and pull out a memory, they could in effect send
the memory to someone else that is in third person- not from their own
perception but the perception of the person they ‘stole’ the memory
from.
Empathy
Empathy is the ability to pick up on
the feelings of others, which usually have ‘a smell’ to them. Empathy
also allows vampires to smell lies, which humans (including gifted
humans) have a hard time masking their feelings. They are less likely
and able to pick up on the feelings and lies of other species of
supernatural but it all depends on the strength and amount of empathy. A
rare amount of vampires are able to ‘see’ feelings rather than smell
them, they will typically appear in shapes and specific colors of light.
Intense emotions tend to be more vivid and in-your-face with the colors
and shape, while sulky or downer feelings are more slow and less
colorful. Magick objects exist to block out a vampire's ability of
empathy.
Mental Shields
All vampires have the
capability of developing a mental shield, but if they are not taught by
another vampire they will never develop this gift. Mental shields are
acquired through training and practice, and strengthened by age.
Therefore even if a Equidistant vampire had been practicing a mental
shield for one hundred years and a Antediluvian vampire had picked it up
two years prior, the older Antediluvian’s shield would always be
stronger than the Equidistant’s, although the younger vampire might
still hold a competitive edge. A mental shield can protect a vampire
from all Vampire powers, including Vampire’s Lust, Rolling and mental
manipulation, if the shield is held in place. It is possible to weaken
as well as entirely destroy a mental shield of another if one is strong
enough. The breaking of a mental shield is painful and can cause the
vampire who’s shield is being broken down to go into a half state of
consciousness; a mental shield protects all memories, thoughts and
feelings from being discoverable and felt and so when a mental shield is
entirely ripped away it is like cutting off a toe, a shield is a part
of the vampire’s being. Once a shield is broken a vampire becomes
reduced to the state of mind as a regular human.
Rolling
This
power is basic in all vampires and stays the same all throughout a
vampire’s existence, but it can be increased by talents such as
Vampire’s lust. When a vampire bites a donor they are capable of numbing
the sensation of pain that a feeding might come about and bringing
sexual pleasure in replacement. Sometimes a vampire will only half roll a
donor to allow the paining sensation to become numbed but no lust to be
inspired from it. Other, more sadistic vampires enjoy not rolling a
donor, or in this circumstance ‘victim’, because they prefer to see them
writhe in pain. Feedings are, without rolling, extremely unpleasant,
and are akin to having open heart surgery without anesthetics.
Increased Strength, Speed and Healing
Vampires
are much more durable than the humans they used to be. Strength tends
to increase with age but all vampires are roughly a thousand times more
than whatever strengths an ability a human has; they can lift cars off
the side of the road with super-strength and are able to run over a mile
per minute, at top speed their motion would appear a blur to
non-supernatural beings. They do not suffer from illnesses and are
immune to all diseases because of their undead status. The healing rate
of a vampire depends on the age of a vampire, but even a newborn vampire
will have the ability to heal a papercut instantly. Gun wounds would
not require the removal of the bullet; a vampire’s body with naturally
push foreign objects out which is why it is impossible for vampires to
have piercings, their body would reject the metal and continue to
reclose the hole.
Mental Manipulation
This
is a trait specifically reserved for the aged and powerful. Once a
certain amount of years has been added to a vampire’s plate of
undeadness, they are able to manipulate the minds of those around them.
The extent of this varies from individual to individual, but examples of
mind manipulation can include any of these things: the ability to
induce hallucinations, to plant memories that never occurred, to bend
the thoughts and or perceptions of an individual to allow them to think
as you wish them to, and lastly to siege attack on another individual’s
mind. When one is under mental manipulation they can feel it initially
if they are of a supernatural species, and even humans may become aware
of the manipulation at times but not be able to place where it is coming
from.
Mental Attacks
Attacks are painful and
involve the shredding of memories; you could hypothetically shred
someone’s memory of their name and brainwash them to think something
else. If a mind if being attacked it is painful, it can be described
best under any extreme act you can think of: being set on fire,
beheaded, having your guts pulled out and slammed back inside of your
repeatedly. It is by far worse pain than being fed from and the worst
ever described. Many a man has gone crazy from their mind being
attacked, and if one does not have mental shields in place there is
little to nothing one can do about these attacks. Thankfully, it takes
an extremely old and powerful vampire to be able to commit these acts,
and the Oligarchy strongly frowns on mental attacks. Those who are found
out to have committed such things are typically beheaded upon sight.
Vampire Weaknesses
Coma
A
vampire will enter a coma once the sun begins to rise, wherever it is.
This state is not like a sleep and more described as a death- during
this time the vampire is unanimated, it has no thoughts, no dreams and
cannot move no matter what. It is lifeless. This is why stereotypically a
vampire will have a safe location- a coffin at the base of a windowless
cellar with a heavy lock that cannot be opened by anyone but
themselves. If a vampire falls inanimate outside where the sun will
shine, it will die. If a vampire is moving during this coma into the
sunlight it will not wake and again, will die. A coma is the vampire’s
most vulnerable state and the best state for someone wanting to harm it
to catch it in.
Sunlight
Sunlight is by far
the vampire’s worst enemy. Vampires can, to a degree, withstand short
spans of time in the sun but they would eventually burn to death.
Exposure to the sun will cause the vampire’s skin to burn ghastly before
turning entirely into ashes on the ground. A vampire who has been
exposed to sunlight for a matter of seconds and then covered will be
disfigured and gruesome to look at on any area of skin that was exposed
to the sun during the encounter.
Sensitivity to Light
A a vampire prefers a dark and shadowy room. Florescent lights irritate their eyes but it does no damage other than annoyance.
Stakes to the heart
A stake to the heart will kill upon impact, no matter what the stake is
made of- however a strong metal is usually advised because it is nearly
impossible to break through tough vampire skin. The stake must entirely
pierce the vampire’s heart and once it does, it is dead.
Fire
A
vampire cannot withstand fire. Light a vampire on fire, it will be dead
within seconds. Even though humans can survive being lit on fire for
several minutes before dying no matter the quickness of the fire, if a
vampire is completely emerged it’s body will incinerate to dust. If only
a certain part of the vampire is put on fire and it does not spread-
such as a hand, that part of the vampire will turn to dust and it will
not repair itself. If a vampire burned off it’s own hand the hand would
dissolve and the vampire would always be missing that particular part of
it’s body.
Beheading
A beheading is one of the most
reliable ways to kill a vampire. It doesn’t matter what a vampire is
beheaded with; if the head is completely detached from the rest of the
body, it is dead and cannot return to an animated state. It is wise that
if one is trying to kill a vampire to be sure the head is completely
severed, for even vampires of young age are able to survive a half
beheading , while recovery time may take months upon months and will
leave an oddly formed scar, if the head is not entirely from the body
the head will rejoin itself in time.
Wounds
Vampires are not
immune to wounds. If you shoot them, usually a bullet will bounce right
off of their skin unless it is a particularly hard metal. Depending on
their age it may take longer or less time for their body to reject the
bullet or heal up the stab wounds, but that is enough to distract a
vampire or temporarily paralyze them until their healings do kick in.
While a round of fire from a machine gun would make a vampire look like a
piece of swiss cheese for a bit, they would not die however would
become significantly weakened and perhaps for a long period of time if
they are younger in age and deficient in quick healing abilities. This,
in turn, could allow the chance for a beheading or other valid forms of
killing much easier.
Drugs
Vampires may be drugged
if there are high, non-diluted amounts. It is possible to sedate
vampires for short periods of time with a dosage of medicine that would
be beyond lethal to a human, just as it is possible for a vampire to
become intoxicated from needle administered drugs. Because vampires
cannot consume anything other than blood without vomiting it back up
shortly afterwards, the only sort of drugs a vampire has any chance of
getting high from is those which are injected directly into the vein,
and excessive quantities would be required because the vampire’s body
would continue to reject the foreign fluid until enough had accumulated
in the bloodstream.
Food and Drinks
A vampire can
ONLY consume blood. They are able to consume blood other than human
blood- a vampire may feed from anything that has blood each vampire has
their own preferences of whom they prefer to be their donors and which
blood tastes the best. If a vampire attempts to eat anything or drink
anything they will be fine- at first. About a half hour later whatever
the vampire consumed other than blood with be vomited up. This includes
even basic thing such as alcohol or water; they cannot consume anything
other than blood.
Creation
A
vampire is made with a human, and only this species. No other species
retains the blood like a vampire does- each species reacts differently
to the attempt of turning but most will reject the blood or promptly die
afterwards. A human may be created of any age; even infants could
hypothetically be turned into a vampire though such is a taboo and has
been forbidden by various ruling Vampire powers for centuries upon
centuries.
Once a candidate is selected, the vampire must also
be present. It only takes one vampire to turn a human, but split-way
turnings are not unheard of. The maximum amount of vampires allowed to
be involved in a turning is unlimited, but a human will typically bleed
dry before the ceremony is over if the number amounts to anything more
than six or seven. Most vampires prefer to be the only sire of a
fledging that they are turning, or one of few. Three is the maximum
comfortable number of vampires to be involved in a turning ceremony-
anything beyond it is generally considered crazy.
The actual
ceremony does not take long and involves two steps. The first step is
the human offering his or her’s blood to the vampire, an arm vein being
preferred. Once the vampire has accepted and drank from the blood of the
human, the vampire will cut itself, typically on the hand and offer the
blood to the human. While it is encouraged by the Oligarchy- and for
the most part a rule- that the human accept the blood willingly, as long
as the human swallows the blood this part of the process will be
complete.
Initially, the human will feel nothing. The wound that
was opened- if not already sealed, will begin to heal itself and they
may find they are somewhat stronger than they used to be, though the
full extent of their powers will not have set in. This is called the
half-fledging stage, a period of time of two days of which is critical
for the complete turning of the vampire. Many will die in this phase and
never completely transition to a vampire. Their body, within these 48
hours, may reject the blood and cause them to die.
During the
half-fledging stage the vampire may still walk in the daylight. They
still breathe, though they have become impotent. There are rumors that a
vampire may be returned human by a strong witches’ spell, but these
things are false truths. It is the job of the one who turned the
half-fledging, referred to as a sire, to bring them their first meal to
complete the transition. Once the half-fledging has fed for the first
time, the process is complete, and they have become a member of the
living dead.
Vampire Ages and Powers
Half Fledging
Creation until 48 hours old
-Ability is retained to still walk within the daylight without being burned or scarred
-Supernatural strength above normal is gained as well as speed and increased healing
-Skin pales and craving for blood starts, eventually intensifying towards the second day
-Will either die or drain a donor until they die if the sire is not present and has not provided a first meal
-Has developed retractable fangs but cannot manipulate them until their
first feeding- they are as a default, in retracted position.
Fledging
3 days until 5 year
-A fledging is entirely dependent on it’s Sire. If a fledging is
abandoned during this point it is possible that the fledging would lose
control and act upon bloodlust. During this period of time the fledging
is taught how to seek willing [and occasionally unwilling] meals. The
Sire is always, but especially at this point, the sole being responsible
for the actions of the fledging, which is why instruction is generally
given at this point in time even if the turning was accidental or spur
of the moment. A fledging who does wrong is essentially serving their
Sire’s head on a platter to the Oligarchy
-They must feed
once every night as they are extremely dependent upon blood. If they do
not feed once per night they will eventually grow weaker and their
bloodlust will be uncontrollable by the third day of hungry. If they do
not feed by this point, they will die. The amount that they need to feed
is roughly one entirely drained human or several different humans at
'survivable' feeding sessions; a vampire must drink around 6 quarts of
bloods a night ( a human body contains 5.6 quarts total) to survive.
-They have basic mind reading abilities and telepathy; they can send
messages to any species and receive telepathic communication back from
those which are capable of it. They are able to send thoughts, feelings
and memories through this communication.
-They have empathy
at the same degree that even an Antediluvian vampire would have; they
can ‘smell’ others emotions naturally unless they are creatures which
are otherwise able to mask them, such as older vampires and species of
magick. They are not yet capable of masking their own emotions.
-If trained, a fledging is able to put up basic level mental shields
that can block out most disturbances. They would not be able to block
their Sire and would always be receptive to their Sire’s mental pull.
They would not be able to resist a message or mind purge from a vampire
older than they are.
-They emit lust, but the pull is not as
strong as those who can manipulate it. Humans and other species which
cannot see the vampire's lust will be attracted to this pull, making
them more likely to become prey. No matter what the appearance of the
vampire previously was. Vampire's Lust creates a temporary veil of
blindness to a mortal's mind, though at this development of the power it
is easily resisted.
-Exposure to sunlight would take five
seconds to kill a vampire at this stage; anything under five seconds
would cause severe and extensive burn scarring but the vampire would
still live.
-A wound will heal faster than a human but still
relatively slow; the healing time is cut in half from however long it
would take a mortal to heal from the injury. Superficial marks like
papercuts will heal automatically, and a vampire will deflect most
bullets, but a stabbing would could take up to a day or two to heal-
though it would not slow down the vampire or weaken them vastly.
Naif; 5 years until 50 years
-Fully developed Empathy
-Exposure to sunlight is now increased to about ten seconds; anything
under ten seconds would cause severe and extensive burn scarring but the
vampire would still live.
-Basic mind reading powers;
communication telepathically becomes easier and with more of a flow.
Some are able to communicate with more than on individual at once.
-Mental manipulation- to a small degree- is possible at this point. A
vampire finds they are able to manipulate the mind of a non-gifted human
easily. They are able to plant ideas but not steal memories; the mental
manipulation is typically limited with eye contact or flesh on flesh
touch with the one who is expected to receive it. A vampire is not able
to manipulate another vampire’s mind or a creature of any other species
unless they are half human and half the other species.
-Vampire’s lust is present but not yet fully developed- they may be able
to pull weaker gifted mortals and on default are able to manipulate an
ordinary human. They are not able to disguise the use of the power and
any non-human being would be able to spot it. A human may become aware
of its use for a second or two during the process but they would not be
able to resist- stronger gifted mortals would be capable of fighting it
off with ease.
Equidistant
51 years until 150 years
-Fully developed Empathy
-Exposure to sunlight is clocked at about sixty seconds; anything under
sixty seconds would cause severe and extensive burn scarring but the
vampire would still live.
-Fully developed mental communication and telepathy
-Vampire’s lust is more advanced and a vampire gains the ability to
manipulate it. They are so good that if they discover they are able to
control it, they can use it on a human without their awareness of it for
even a second. The pull is so strong at this point that it can
transcend orientation, and a vampire can draw even a heterosexual
individual to become attracted to homosexual relations and vice versa.
They are more able to put gifted mortals ‘under’ but this is not fail
proof and with concentrated effort a more powerful gifted mortal would
be able to break through. They begin to see that their powers can work
on weaker vampires as well as members of other species that are weaker
in nature.
Adult
150 years until 999
-Fully developed Empathy
-Exposure to sunlight is clocked at two minutes; at thirty seconds
extensive irreversibly scarring would appear, and anything under thirty
seconds the ability to heal is possible.
-Fully developed mental communication and telepathy
-Vampire’s lust has an undeniable pull, and a vampire is able to
manipulate it well. They are able to attract humans and even gifted
humans to them without a struggle, and it would take sufficiently
concentrated effort by a gifted mortal to break free from the vampire’s
pull. An adult vampire is able to use its powers more effectively on
other species now, and is able to engulf those of equal strength and
some of slightly stronger, though a fight for power would be present in
these circumstances
Antediluvian
1000+ years
-Exposure to sunlight is at its maximum of five minutes. At two minutes
irreverasble scarring would start and by four minutes and thirty
seconds the vampire would be severely disfigured beyond recognition, but
it would live.
-Fully developed Empathy
-Fully developed mental communication and telepathy
-They are able to cast vampire lust on vampire weaker than them and all
mortals. Resistance is almost entirely futile. They are able to cast
vampire lust on other species and are usually effective- they can cast
the power on individuals of other species that are stronger than they
are, and have a fifty fifty chance of being successful. They are able to
manipulate it fully, they can strengthen or weaken the lust blanket
over another’s mind at any moment.
History of Vampires
The
history vampires is rumored to be before the dawning of mankind and
before the starting of most life on planet earth. Ancient legends depict
four original vampires which all vampires hail from, which is often
referred to as the four bloodlines.
Ehon, Ashauh, Uzaakx and
Etritec are the names of the four demons who are said to have been the
first and only demons to have developed the 'mutation'. None of them
knew each other personally and were all inhabiting different spaces of
the world at the time. Rumor is that these four demons at the time had
been the first demons to inhabit earth for long periods of time without
returning to the underworld. It is thought that their lack of returning
to their homelands is the direct cause for the mutation, although this
is disputed by many, for in modern times demons have managed to last
longer without mutating.
At first, the four only began to crave
blood. Demons do not naturally need to feed upon anything on the earth
to sustain themselves, and it became apparent to the four demons that if
they did not consume human blood they became weak and fatigued. It was
Ashauh whom discovered that it was possible to turn a human into a
similar nature as they were. They became weak to sunlight and dead
during the daylight hours. The first four demon-vampires did not die by
sunlight, but all of their fledgings did. Soon the demon culture
rejected the four mutants and they adopted the title human often gave
them, cultivating their own culture by putting emphasis on bloodline and
turning humans as they went.
Of the four demons, only Etritec
is rumored to be alive. The other three demon-vampires have been thought
to be slaughtered, but there is no evidence that proves that they have.
Social Structure and Oligarchy
Vampires are not naturally civilized, sociable creatures in their
nature. They have been trained to behave a certain way after hundreds of
thousands of years of error. Naturally a vampire is a destructive,
bloodthirsty and solitary creature, but over the years, as the
bloodlines mixed and degenerated different temperaments emerged. Those
who were able to grasped powers and idealized a peaceful, humanitarian
approach to feeding and dealing with humans. In other places, tyrannical
powerful vampire leagues swamped and overrun the peaceful ones and
demanded an iron fist be placed on the indigenous people of earth, that
the humans would becomes slaves to supernaturals.
Within
time, a monarchy emerged in Somalia called "Agency for Dominance" or
AFD. AFD encouraged vampires to create monarchies in their countries,
states and cities, and under their leadership they released "Universal
Theocracy of Rules And Regulations for All Supernatural Beings" a
document rumored to be thousands of pages long, detailing 'the rules' of
the monarchy. Bloodlines began to be emphasized at this point in time
and they have always been important since. Of the four bloodlines
recognized, the AFD members hail from Etritec and reject all other
bloodlines. They have a list of recognized governments of the world, of
which The Oligarchy of Schydar is listed, and therefore under their
protection.
In the last three hundred to four hundred years new
bloodlines have begun to emerge, thought to be the result of mixing
bloodlines to such a degree that they no longer retain the similarity to
any of the four original.
