The Herodoties: Chapter 1, The Great Calamity and Corona

The Herodoties: Chapter 1, The Great Calamity and Corona

A Chapter by Philosopher King

One hundred years ago, a great calamity stuck the earth that was so enormous in its magnitude,  it forever changed the relation of man to man. From that day forward, the continent known as the Americas were divided into a multitude of states, and a multitude of a multitude of states within states.

However, an area that I will touch upon in these histories is the far west of the Americas that have a similar climate as to our Greece, and who's people after the great calamity, decided to erect city states thinking they would offer the best protection. It is said that the climate of the western state of the Americas is much like our own Greece with an equal mixture of hot and cold. The vegetation is also similar and much has been spoken of in regard to the wine and olives that grow in abundance in that region.

This area that I will touch upon in the Histories used to be a mega state that belonged to the republic of America, or as the people called it at the time, California. The Americans as they have been called were a peculiar people. It was said that before the great calamity the Americans were considered the most tolerant people in the world and it was because of this tolerance that contributed to their prosperity.

One of the customs of these Americans was said to have been a particular philosophy in which they held in high regard. This was the idea of innovation and competition. This high esteem for this particular philosophy is said to have unleashed a plethora of technological innovation across the land resulting in the manufacturing of esteemed goods unlike anything  seen before in the world. The Americans were able to come up with an invention to fix every calamity, and every sickness known to man, almost eradicated hardships that a multitude of the people of the world had  still faced at that time.

Yet it is said that these innovations made Americans soft and lazy, and due to this plethora of innovations, strange ideas began to creep into their minds that life was not good enough, and in which all were subject to one form of oppression or another. This is what is said to have led to the dissolution of its citizens in which the pinnacle was reached by the sucession of all ways.

Now enough about the customs and philosophies of the Americans. I will proceed to discuss that which has prompted me to undertake this inquiry in the first place: the great war that occurred between the city states after the great calamity.

As already mentioned, after the great calamity struck, the people resolved themselves to dwell into city states in which they thought would bring about the best possible protection. Although the histories of these city states span a hundred years with numerous war after war taking place between them, my inquiry will deal with the relations of the city states after the great calamity.

The first of which I will make mention in my inquiry is the city state known as Corona. It is said that before the calamity, the word for the name originated from the idea of the circular aptitude of a crown, and that the city grew within the circumference of a track that was laid upon for motorized chariot races. From within that circle, the city soon became bigger and then came to outgrow the circle from all sides in its development.

After the great calamity struck it is said that a civil war ensued between two factions for power over the city state. The first faction is the Zachary faction and the confederations of tribes that stood behind it, and the second faction was the Lafferty faction composed of the multitude of the family and also its conglomerate of tribes that stood behind them. From the onset these tribes would fight for power with the common occurrence of the Lafferty tribe appearing from the west and holding the capital for some time, until the Zachary tribe would usurper from the south and recapture it. For several years this conflict raged according to this common pattern with nobody able to cement power over the city state and proclaim themselves the reigning dynasty.

But now, a little about the tribes. It is said that prior to the great calamity, the Lafferty tribe dwelled in the city of corona for some time until the parents of the second generation of children passed away from self-poisoning. After being orphaned due to this neglect on part of the parents, they were soon ordered by the American magistrates to move far from their dwelling, and proceeded to take up residence in present day Cyrusopolies which was at that time called Riverside. After the great calamity and its subsequent break down of law and order, it is said that the Lafferties amassed a brigade of motorized chariots and proceeded to travel to corona in an effort to take back their former dwelling by force. When the new inhabitants of the dwelling refused to give up the refuge of the Lafferties,  it is said they were murdered on the spot in such brutal fashion by applying blunt force to each of the present dweller's heads. They then proceeded to string the bodies of the their victims on wooden pools and on trees, and through these actions came to cement fear and power over the populace in this region. The accounts of this story is one in which I have researched myself by the access to the Cyrusopolies achieves, that are also said to have been produced by the first Cyrus of Cyrusopolies himself on account of his personal relations with members of the Lafferty tribe.
