We Never Look Up Anymore!

We Never Look Up Anymore!

A Poem by Phill Oz O'fee
"

For anyone who’s nearly knocking me over, because of texting; not looking where they’re going

"

We Never Look Up Anymore!

Clicking fingers

Cross the mobile’s pad

Facebook searching

For the latest fad

Mesmerising addiction

To a tiny screen

Distorting actuality

Into a cyberspace dream

Head down

Automaton speed walking freaks

Unmindful sensitivity

To everyone they meet

Oblivious mindset

Encapsulates the soul’s formation

This obsession

Replacing earth’s exceptional creations

Attention person

Staring vacantly straight down

Look upward

At this celebratory abound

Now immerse

This magnificence of reality

Into every

Molecular and fibrous mentality

I want to give you a standing ovation for this one!

So true! SO SO SO TRUE! Technology is replacing one of the dearest and important things in the world and that is the value of one-on-one time (face-to-face) with the ones you love and care for. We become so involved with our "FB" friends, but how many, anymore, have someone they can run to? How many can be content and feel valued, loved, accepted, and important in the lives of others? We're constantly interrupted and replaced/ignored/blown off due to a beep from a phone. So many DIE because that text message becomes more important than our safety.

I love your structure of the piece. I also love the character and voice in the piece. Excellent writing.

Phil you are so right with this one. We do not ever look up (in more ways than one)
You have written a poem for todays hectic world of cyberspace, texting and being so absorbed we do not look up.
It is time we did.. Thank you for reminding us so well.

This is very powerful and I agree that this technology though has its good points, it has a major flaws...you have captured this very well. I especially like the last several lines...good writing on the subject...
