Four Grey Walls

Four Grey Walls

A Poem by Phill Oz O'fee
"

I need inspiration...

"

Four Grey Walls

This vestibule self isolation retreat

Crumbles creative contemplations

And new imaginations grow obsolete

Increasingly fuelling my frustrations

There is little inspiration from staring

At these four grey walls I’m encased

In fact it’s now imperiously despairing

My idioms a flat broth of toxic waste

The glass portal outlook to my garden

Now atoll refuge in this plastered plain

Gives comfortingly relief from burdens

And stops my mind going fully insane

Nature’s regularity during abnormality

Gives a glimmer of hope to my heart

With reminder that steadfast rationality

May give innovative writing a jumpstart

Thus again I sit typing at my keyboard

Scraping prose from cracking partitions

And teasing out feelings yet unexplored

To contemplate even more expositions

"teasing out feelings" I like that....

for some reason even without outside inspiration, during this isolation there has been much inside inspiration...your poem speaks to that.
and Phill, i think this poem you wrote can inspire you and more will come...
writing about writers' block often is the best prescription to get our pen going again....

so many really smart images used in this...your poetry is always so clever and thoughtful.

Nice Phill. That was in fact a very creative contemplation, so all is not lost. Winwood’s “Uninspired” came to me – good company in my mind. Scrape that prose.

This nicely rhymed offering gives a picture of the effort to create during the pandemic. The unvarying sameness of things every day doesn't do a lot to strike the creative spark. The verse mentioning the view of the garden, however, resonated with me. I often go to a small wooded area where, if I don't look in the rearview mirror to catch a glimpse of the neighboring strip mall, I can pretend I'm in the midst of a forest. Have done some of my best writing there.
