Windowpane World

Windowpane World

A Poem by Phill Oz O'fee
"

This world is changing....

"

Windowpane World

Resting my forehead against the sash’s frame

From behind a thin smooth transparent barrier

I contemplate life beyond this now self-isolation

Reflecting the irony of my windowpane world

Where raw nature obliviously still carries on

Around inept humanity’s trials and tribulations

The glass feels cool under touching fingertips

Tracing outlines of clouds cruising vibrant sky

Shape-shifting icons of everlastingly sequence

Awaiting horizon gobbles up a musing mindset

And I turn to embrace alternative distractions

That lay so close yet so far beyond my contact

An ambience of avian cries quiver keen senses

Filling me with envy of bird freedoms flying high

In unhindered abandonment from gated borders

And squabbling sparrows navigating hedgerow

Refines my thoughts of now suspended choices

As this new confinement challenges my psyche

The face and obverse sides to these conditions

Present defining moments for lessons to be learnt

For from now nothing will ever remain the same

And new embossed approaches to our lifestyles

Should to be adopted for future narrative survival

When again we can come together as one people

“Where raw nature obliviously still carries on
Around inept humanity’s trials and tribulations”

This poem has a profound effect on the reader. The poet is so deep in contemplation and the resultant thought is for all of humanity and the direction in which we must go from here.

As I read the lines I quoted again and again I wondered if it’s poetic justice? The world from your window pane looks breathtaking and yet we humans alone are now barred from it while the rest of the creatures thrive! We brought it on ourselves perhaps.

Beautifully written. Your chosen picture is amazing too.

In these housebound days, what is there to do but look out the window! My kittens love gazing out at the forest for hours, and my parakeets continuously perch in the window and have for most of their short lives. I wonder what they think about for all those hours. I would think they would be bored.

reminds me of the old Hollies' song...

"look thru any window"
only in this case i don't see "smiling faces all around, rushing through the busy town"
i see frowns in a ghost town....

outside my window, i hear the chorus of birds, flying free...
and my window, though it has no bars, feels like it does.
I daydream of when we can talk face to face again, hug again,
go back to a hands on world, being really with each other, rather than only in cyberspace.
really strong write here.

Some super expression here Phill. Maybe now as many of us face lockdown throughout our globe, we will truly appreciate the beauty and gift of nature. Your posted image is breathtaking. Fortunately I have my garden and I will be spending much of my time tending it. I can't help feeling, this is nature's way of biting back. We have taken her for granted for far too long. Maybe when this is over, we will all be nicer to each other. Maybe it will take a pandemic that will help unite our race. Keep safe my friend.
