Shifting Sands

Shifting Sands

A Poem by Phill Oz O'fee
"

To follow a dream...

"

Shifting Sands

Tattered tides of time

Have taken toll upon

My core essence

Myriad ebbs and flows

Pushing and pulling

Leave invisible scars

Like shoreline shifting sands

My soul thus surrenders

Wielding to life’s waves

Unsubscribed to destiny

Only good or bad choices

Establish my existence

No excuses for mistakes

I claim them to recover

And try to err no more

Only refills of real love

Can dwell within a void

If only it were that simple

For I navigate on driftwood

Compassed by strong currents

Seeking utopian refuge

Mayhap a kindred spirit

Will pluck me from this plight

To keep me in their pocket

Until then sunsets beckon

And I will chase a dream

To hopefully find your heart

I am NOT into romance or romantic notions, but this poem actually swept me away on the ever-present tickle of a notion that there's something else "out there" . . . could be love, could be fame, could be a do-over, whatever it is! It's utterly romantic to live as if on the cusp of whatever late-life surprise might be on the horizon. I believe it's a necessary stance, in order to lure more good things into our lives, rather than sitting around like a disgruntled prune. This almost strikes me as a pep-talk to those who feel there are no more possibilities & it's too late to try again (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

a poignant & philosophical poetic story of life's experiences & learning.
i love it.
i would like to live up to the 5th paragraph's principle.

"Mayhap a kindred spirit
Will pluck me from this plight
To keep me in their pocket" ___what most adults & teenagers dream of.

This to me sounds like someone who as been through a great many trials in their life and at this juncture they are hoping for someone to look past it all and love the person that is now standing before this.

Love the use of the shoreline and ocean to project the imagery of life and its trials. Well thought out and penned

Many thanks for your insightful review - we never end our search....its what keeps hope alive... ;-)
i've had the ebbs and flows and bear those scars...but there is always that elusive dream that hopefully will one day be attained...wounded hearts still have dream. Hopefully the ocean of love will not wipe away the sands of hope...
