Happy New Year Everyone ... :-)

Mantra of Expression

I gently swirl the waning embers

Of this past year’s raw tribulations

That lay upon this heart’s hearth

And pray their ashes heal my soul

When midnight hour strikes rebirth

So breaks and binds the yesterdays

Cast to reflections of historical events

Thus I must strive for new beginnings

To learn from what has been before

And mould a more humbling lifestyle

Shall be my fresh New Year’s resolution

An innovative self mantra of expression

Ah, each year as experiences go we seek to change our way of thinking in a sad attempt to do better each year ... do we though? we go through life making the same mistakes but with a slightly different slant. things hardly ever change ...mindset seem to be along the same blueprint! i look back, contemplate - review ...nothing changes! Thought provoking piece! Thanks for sharing!

maybe new beginnings, but your poetry never gets old, Phill....your "mantra of expression" is solid.

really like the ash metaphor...in the fourth line I read "their"---
