Reckless Rhetoric

Reckless Rhetoric

Reckless Rhetoric

The despot’s twisting tongue

Spews toxic reckless rhetoric

Into a fanatic’s obtuse mindset

Manifesting sadistic nightmares

A single sear and hammer strike

Discharges another violent act

Over and over again and again

In succinct belligerent atrocities

To conceal resultant human costs

Body bags are quickly zippered

To a crescendo of weak excuses

From the original source of hate

Malignant speechifying corrupts

And must be addressed forthwith

Before more fatalities are recorded

As a result of irresponsible idiom

I am feeling every inch of your spill, my friend. I just got off facebook where my friends (about half are country rednecks who love Trump) have been embroiled in a rage-filled, name-calling brouhaha (further expanding the reach of this despot's reckless rhetoric) . . . for days. I refuse to go there anymore. No sense can be made of anything anymore within my sphere of influence, since so many in the area where I live (agricultural) are in love with Trump & they excuse his s**t with the most tangled f*****g justifications, it's crazymaking conversation . . . I ditched my family a decade ago to get away from crazymaking. I'm sorry this country is suffering, but I can't let myself feel the full impact of what's going on. Still, I very much honor how you show a hopelessly lopsided picture with great details & passion (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

so true and well said Phil the vile bile spewed by the few echoed by the many fanning the flames of the wretched for power and greed is making me so very sad these days

This poem absolutely nails the scenario that exists Phill. Great title, picture , language, cadence and deft crescendo of on-point verses. “Malignant speechifying corrupts..And must be addressed forthwith”- yes- it brings vermin out from underground hiding and lights incendiary fuses. These are such important words you write, my friend. They are warnings that must be heard. Thank you for this write.

There is certainly nothing social about tapping on a phone screen and calling it diplomacy...nor is it any way to run any country.
I was of the understanding that we elect leaders to lead...and once upon a fairy tale there were some exceptional men & women who understood the responsibility to their country to govern was not a joke.

How times have changed!!

Nowadays it is "Reckless Rhetoric" spewing from all sides...and there doesn't appear to be an end to it.

Thank you Kescha - so pleased you found my write of interest - :-)
this is absolutely true and so many of us are just discouraged by this behavior....
Reality TV fame does not transfer to the highest office in the land.
this poem makes me even more angry than i was...but not the poet's fault...it is the subject of the poem's fault.
thank you for this, Phill.
