The Rising Tide

Patience is rapidly melting

At an accelerated rate

From toxic fusion rhetoric

By the extreme right and left

A two-edged social media

Brings both illuminations

And obverse false distortions

In myriads of mystifying mirages

An immense inequality sphere

Collides into a political tarn

Creating a human tsunami

In massive protesting waves

Rule by fear and intimidation

The adopted tactic today

Deliberately provoking division

With anarchistic displays

Smashing religious diversity

With hatred forged iron bars

Diabolic stone-hearted despots

Shatter glass accords of peace

Partitioning national borders

Blockading exploited refugees

Does not address inhumanities

Only exacerbates their plight

Relabelled minority citizens

As nonconforming undesirables

Does not justify state action

To meliorate behind barbed wire

The rising tide of blatant stolidity

Has yet to reach its conclusion

And left apolitically to maturate

Would be compassion’s death

you bring up a really good point here, Phill...."Compassion's death"
Where is it? and both parties are to blame for their bickering, own agendas...lack of caring about us...the humanity is disappearing...those elected to govern us...don't care about us...
so sad.
a really poignant write right now with the political climate.

"Relabelled minority citizens
As nonconforming undesirables" I am inspired by the way you put those phrases together in such a way that it intertwines your poem altogether in a sad yet true to life point of view. I love your choice of words and style. Thank you for this wonderful poem that this generation truly needs.

Thank you for your kind review - have a lovely day my friend - :-)
Thank you for writing so eloquently about this. I especially felt verse 4. I am so bitterly disappointed in how the world is going, I'm temporarily unable to write anything to comment on this situation. It's all about the hate & division & blaming & polarization . . . you capture it all in what sounds a little bit like a droning eulogy of sadness (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

' Rule by fear and intimidation - The adopted tactic today - Deliberately provoking division - With anarchistic displays.. '

A poem that subtly shouts out (yes, tis possible), SAVE THIS WORLD WITH KINDNESS, NOW. PLEASE. Social media has given so much to people, but TRAGICALLY too much. It's provided weapons with which, without thought or reason - many petty-minded, jealous, self-righteous, cowardly and more beings, to slay Character, knock people off worthy Pedestals, of stripping respect and tolerance whatever background. Once there were wise judges who listened to facts and found what was considered as fair appraisals of evil, cruel, slanderous, libellous deeds, etc..Nowadays, anyone can do or say what he or she wants from the underground stone cell ugly minds behind smeared glass or by moving finger.. and how 'it writs'!

I truly respect your poem.. your declaration.. your opinions, Phill. Each stanza, each comment, is put clearly without - in itself, pointing a vicious finger. Thank you so very much for taking first place in how to be a true human being.

You said so much in this I am gobsmacked the fact that you just said it and not pointed disapproval to the side and yet conveyed the messages has not escaped my ear. Your observations are sharp and bittersweet and I could not agree with you more. This writing is so worthwhile and pertinent and penned perfection instant favorite at my first reading Phil

Your kind words are most apricated Robert - many thanks!
Well written, Phil. From what I observe this malaise runs through every country you can name. It seems we elect leaders to lead and get hogs with lousy manners and their noses in the trough and we're expected to exalt the upper class...when none have shown the least interest in the "deplorables" who put them there.

It has always been this way, but the advent of anti-social media has produced a larger group of clowns whose fingers do more thinking than their brains.

A good write.

Many thanks Ryanna - have a nice day! :-)
i think the debate is off point when the enforcement of the immigration laws are equated with lack of morality .. i agree that the rhetoric is absolutely insane .. almost comical at this point .. not only do right and left use bent "facts" to bolster points ... we all do it .. with each other .. sometimes about the most mundane of things ... on line has proliferated it .. there is "fake news" ... attacks on character instead of the substance of policy is ludicrous ... i quit watching and reading and listening for the most part ...with the exception of live hearings and sessions of Congress .. i am out of it ... i am Independent .. looking for honest workers to staff the halls of Congress .. get the damn job done says i! and about the borders ... we have no Sovereign Nation until they are secure ... i lock my doors at night .. and i have borders around my property and walls around my home for a reason ... i get to choose who i ask in or not .. and break ins will not be tolerated .... ;) love your poem ... great voice to open the discussion .. and what better place to have it in ... and with .. poets .. right here at the Cafe' :)) peace and joy!
