Sun on My Back

Sun on My Back

A Poem by Phill Oz O'fee

Sun on My Back

Intense flora on slumped undercliffs

Crowns the vertical white-faced cliffs

Rising up from sandy shoreline coast

An awareness of the sun on my back

Stimulated a mood of contentment bliss

Warming winter blues out chilly veins

Overhead calm flocks of frolicsome gulls

Dance in pairs to pulsing rhythmic waves

And beats of cadent tides upon the shore

In an aquamarine cloudless atmosphere

The blinding brilliance of afternoon sun

Sprinkles mini reflections on wet shingle

Fresh salty flavoured undulating breezes

Tickled gentle across my smiling face

As I soaked up the ambiance of the day

Ascending pathway to upland I discover

A soft blanket assemblage of wildflowers

Amongst many ancient Bronze Age barrows

Sensational scents awaken inner senses

As busy buzzing bees forage frantically

To scoop and bucket up the floral riches

It’s humbling to meander nature’s creation

Enjoying all mystique gifts freely bestowed

Unique endowments that must be protected

It's amazing how a few words said or written by others can inspire the poets within us.

I could hear the seagulls and the sound of crashing waves, taste the salt on my tongue.
I want the warm summer to return and I want to go to the beach, fall asleep with a cold drink beside me and a book over my face to protect me from the blazing sun.

The blanket of wild flowers that cover the ancient weapons suggest an untold story of a tragic war.

The last stanza was my favorite of all:

"..It’s humbling to meander nature’s creation
Enjoying all mystique gifts freely bestowed
Unique endowments that must be protected.."

Thanks for sharing, keep writing.

This little visit has certainly been an uplifting experience for me. I loved the journey you took me on and all the sights, sounds, tastes, and fragrance of that place. You certainly managed to heighten all my senses with your lines. Inspiration isn't always easy to find, that a fellow poet provided some for you is admirable. Have a good Saturday Phill.

they capture the most sometimes..
not only protected but appreciated much more than we do....we portray all that is so gifted to us...
and we either ignore or ruin...maybe those who read this poem will appreciate that fact and be more careful and more noticing....although most who read will be poets...and we already appreciate that which we write so much about, in endearing terms.
nicely done.
