Handfuls of Nought

Handfuls of Nought

A Poem by Phill Oz O'fee
"

As if we didn't know...

"

Handfuls of Nought

Funny how time just flies

Chasing distant dreams

Exhausting every avenue

And panning stony streams

Majestic honour is elusive

Relying on just knowledge

At times it’s from a lifestyle

Not only community college

Fortunes on a roundabout

That blur as they fast spin

Can finger burn with trying

To grab life’s gold kingpin

Speculate to accumulate

I’ve often heard it mentioned

But if it goes deeply wrong

That blows a decent pension

For I am positively sure

Having not a single doubt

On opening a treasure chest

I’ll find handfuls of nought

And the moral of my words

As I’m sure you will agree

Appreciate what you have

The best things in life are free

You use word puzzles to express yourself & I was having these "dawning" experiences, as I read your words, then the meaning slowly becomes more & more clear & relevant to your overall message. Love the sound of this phrase & many others: "speculate to accumulate" & that entire stanza is so spot-on. You are very good at expressing recognizable ideas in unusual ways & I love originality. Going on 63 this year, I find that when I had more money, I was much less happy . . . now I'm poor & the richest I've ever been! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I loved the way you used the word nought here..To be honest , first I was congused because I have always used this word in my maths or physics class..I agree with you the best things in life are free..This world would have been a far more wonderful place if humans would have chased happiness , love and joy instead of money..Howsoever rich you may become , you can never buy love..I loved this poem..Keep writing Phill Oz O'fee..This poem brought a smile on my face...
Take care..

great play on words and flow....and yes...the best things in life are free...but why do we do such awful things to get richer and richer....for what? we can't take that with us when we leave this earth...love we can...joy we can...experience we can.

my pleasure Phil :)
The powers that be would like us to believe that the best things in life are free...it's only because they haven't figured out how to tax them... ;p)

If we taxed political hot air we'd all get massive tax breaks. ;>)
Nought, is such an expressive word. On occasion I toss it around.
You have cleverly written a plain simple truth. That some of the richest people I know live paycheck to paycheck.
