The Ramblings of a Grain of Sand; thought # 9

Storing the Christmas decorations away into the attic the other day, I couldn’t help but sneak a quick look at some old photos stored in a dusty suitcase. Coming across one of my granddad joyously celebrating, who knows what, with a large whiskey in his hand, reminded me of the tall tales he used to spin to justify his drinking habits. The one about the medicinal benefits of drinking whiskey was one, in particular, got my Granny’s eyes rolling upwards and her then releasing a great grunting sign.

He suggested there was scientific proof whisker had a strong beneficial application if taken regularly. To back up this statement he went on to say;”...if you go out into the garden and dig up a nice big fat worm and place it into a glass of water, it will wiggle and juggle until it eventually reaching the top of the glass to escape.” By this time we were all enthralled at his simple experimental theory. He then continued his remarks with;”... then, if you take the same worm and place it into a large glass of single malt whiskey, you will discover it has been instantly killed off”. And the punchline his audacious moral tall tale was;”... which only goes to prove if you drink whiskey instead of water ... you won’t get worms!”

We all followed Granny’s lead and shrugged our shoulders in disbelief ... what can I say!
