![]() Laughing EvergreensA Poem by Phill Oz O'feeLaughing Evergreens ![]() Laughing evergreens stand gloating When deciduous become unfrocked Smirking at their autumnal nakedness As tears of burnt orange leaves fall
All past season they jealously stood Feeling like background foliage props Overshadowed by extravagant leafage Playing second stage to forest views
The Horai dictated both their fates And this was the time for sacrifice Carpeting of organic decaying debris Would now ameliorate a hunger earth
During dark dormant months of stillness Glorious pines would stand proudly tall Awaiting a time of man’s decorations Of tinsel strips and multi-coloured lights
But senescent year will become anew With awakenings of fresh fascinations And once more the dressings of nature Will camouflage and hid the bareness
