Actually I live in India and here still in this modern age most of the marriages are arranged marriages..In fact all my elder cousins had arranged marriage..But to be true I personally never understood the idea behind arranged marriage..I mean how can you live your entire life with a person whom you even don't know properly..I am actually against this arranged marriages and so I really loved it..And actually that picture before your poem it perfectly expresses what life becomes after arranged marriages..You know when my parents were married they didn't even talked with each other properly before they were married and this resulted into their failed marriage whose price I am paying..My childhood was ruined because of that and my mom's entire life got ruined because of it..It appears to me as if you are taking a small toffee they are so careless about thing as important as marriage when you do a arranged marriage..How can you live your entire life with a stranger???I loved this...

Romantic love and marriage are two very different things. A marriage has to last in the face of many practicalities and realities of life, which may not all be pleasant and rosy. Romance often wears off after a time and a marriage still has to outlast it.
The institution of arranged marriages in my country takes this fact into consideration. It is easier to last out together when two people are from similar backgrounds, communities, financial strata, upbringing, beliefs and expectations from life because there is so much personal adjustment to take place between two people living together long term, anyway. How many people who marry for love study their partners enough before marriage? It’s a gamble. Hence the high rate of failure of marriages nowadays. So there is a soundness of logic and a basic concern our elders have for their children in how these marriages are arranged in my place. Our divorce rate indeed is rising but it is lower than other places, even now. On the other hand, bad marriages can be both love marriages and arranged marriages.
Btw Nowadays, in most of contemporary India, a couple going in for an arranged marriage get plenty of time to know each other so they are NOT strangers when they marry and often it happens that two people don’t gel personally so they refuse to go ahead. It all happens under the umbrella of families and so it’s a win win situation for everyone. And lasting love and concern between arranged partners often grows when a marriage is amicable, fruitful and peaceful, so these unions are not loveless, when nurtured.
I’m speaking from experience. I married for love. I’ve had a tough time. My siblings and cousins in arranged marriages are having an easier time and are more focused on building their family units, together.
So one can’t outrightly judge which form of marriage is good or bad. It may be case specific.

I never understood the whole concept. I see it as a hit or miss relationship that's bound to be miserable if the two each sees the other as the wrong person to be with. I've never actually looked read about it in detail for that reason.
I am caught in a time spiral of confusion; that period we all experience between birth and death.
