Hatchet PondA Poem by Phill Oz O'feeHatchet Pond is the largest body of water within the Crown Lands of the New Forest, managed by the Forestry Commission.Hatchet Pond Temperate morning mist meanders In translucent billows across the pond Illuminated in soft subdued cerise haze In sunrise’s subtle twisted light rays
Dancing around the water’s boundary A myriad of airborne vibrant beasties Dart transversely between the reeds Predators’ flying breakfast early feast
Daybreak yawn’s soft summer zephyr Of sighing countenance into my soul Pleasantly presented by Mother Nature An ambiance of magnificent splendour
They say the simplest things in our lives Can freely be discovered all around us We need only open are blinkered eyes And escape to more tranquil surroundings
