Salient Support

Salient Support

Salient Support

When asked about my welfare

Excuse me if I seem bemused

Ups and downs are universal

And I am certainly not immune

Just because I live all alone

Doesn’t mean that I am lonely

My humble citadel is surrounded

By a moat of words so cosy

Inside all needs are catered for

With essential homely apparatus

It may not be to everyone’s taste

But suits this chap’s present status

The nucleus of keeping focussed

Lays in the literature stored about

An A to Z on nearly every subject

Prevents any intellectual drought

And then there is my imagination

Encircled in life’s now time realities

Allowing flashes of inspired scribbles

Of fact or fiction and even Socrates

For protection against my insanity

I have valued Writers Café friends

Supporting and keeping me in check

Stops me going around the bend

i feel this piece...enough relationships for awhile...living alone doesn't mean lonely...much integration with other folks at school, tennis, trivia etc. but then the peace of home...cozy and quiet...not necessarily a bad thing.

and as S&G sang..."i have my books, and my poetry to protect me"

Aww, whoever inspired this poem is lucky to have such a talented writer as a friend.
The word 'salient' is just so perfect to describe this kind of support isn't it?
And those little fingers are so cute!

You couldn't have done a better job writing my own story if you tried! So glad to hear about your coping strategies, some similar to my own, & well shared in a playful tone of self-satisfaction. What else can we ask of life? I'm also grateful for my café friends who not only keep me sane, but help prevent me from doing anything that might land me in prison. Your friendship here is much enjoyed (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Love this so much! Can I be one of those super-cute fingers? Phill, your poem is perfect and says so much about how you feel about this site. I am in total accord with your feelings. “My humble citadel is surrounded..by a moat of words so cosy”- wonderful metaphor, and perfect heart-felt words from friends are so priceless. Eloquent writing with great form, flow, cadence and rhyme (of course!). ...”And in the end”..I’m proud to be your friend!:))))))
