Shattering SlashA Poem by Phill Oz O'feeNot good …Shattering Slash A trembling tattooed adolescent Gestured a frantic follow him request To where his blood soaked friend Laid stab wounded in his t-shirt chest
Aware of his laboured breathing Noting this young man’s dire condition I applied pressure to a vicious slash Mobile phoning for hospital admission
It took over twenty agonising minutes Before the paramedical team arrived But tragically too much loss of fluids Meant the victim failed to be revived
I was just an ordinary passing stranger Involved in issues not before affected Suddenly safe life viewed perspectives Seemed heart-grindingly disconnected
In my daily safe sheltered urban bubble Not taking notice to teenager struggle Knife crime was furthest from my mind Until first hand witnessing today’s trouble
Authority must now address this anxiety Compassionately tackling these concerns Educating to make conscious the coercion And not weak laws of diminishing returns
