Loveable Bro

Loveable Bro

Loveable Bro

My brother

Used to always say

I’m an avid follower

Of free love

Or the lowest price

The better’

But time has taken

His six pack waist

And reshaped it

Into a portly keg

By whatever means

He’ll fanatically strive

To be the centre

Of everyone’s attention

And most often

He attains this aspiration

Unfortunately for him

All the daft wrong reasons

Oblivious to the critique

And derogatory laughter

My younger sibling

Imagines himself to be

A fountain of knowledge

And financial success

Still you have to admire

His unique failed attempts

As he always tries

His unconvincing best

Perhaps alcohol intake

Should be taken less

But he’s my family

So I let it all go …!

Imagination is a good thing and takes us to places many are scared to tread or go- at least the attempts are made and it’s in the falling down and failures and getting back up that we learn and grow- following the heart and being yourself is what u believe is best- sibling love shows here- 🌹

Great poem, Phil.....we love them, even though they drive us nuts and since we live in a real world, often we are also guilty of not playing our parts......

I have two brothers, so I was drawn to your title. Both of them consume too much of the hard stuff. As an older sister, they both know what my thoughts are but I love them, and so let it go trying to focus and search for their good points. This is an honest write and well expressed.

Letting go under those circumstances is the right decision, I can tell ya now.....Those of us that have such a lovable bro know exactly where ya coming from, and where ya bruvver has been and is likely to go....For that reason alone, I am truly grateful..................Neville

You are amazing! I rarely see anyone write so honestly about a close relative, while at the same time being able to accept this person, flaws & all! You describe many of the traits I can't stand about my brother, who dominates every conversation to show off his intellect -- yet your assessment is much less harsh than mine would be, if I wrote it out like this! You have the perfect balance between being realistic & also being compassionate. In the USA these days, the "Trump" factor makes every family interaction a million times more difficult, on top of the troubles you so delicately describe here! *wink! wink!* Fondly, Margie

Thank you my friend ... we can choose our friends - but - relatives we are stuck with *sigh* ... :-)
There's nothing wrong with a 12 pack. It's only 6 away.
Making a fool of yourself, you can only laugh.
Blood is blood, and he might have a matching kidney.
