Separate Chairs

Separate Chairs

A Poem by Phill Oz O'fee
"

Longevity relationship ....

"

Separate Chairs

Once the last offspring had fledged from the nest

Harry and Heather downsized their city address

Seeking a dignified new lifestyle of retirement rest

Bought a quaint coastal cottage in the south west

Those first summer months were heavenly bliss

Salt fragranced breezes carried a crocosmia kiss

Throughout the home in waves of soft floral mist

And ticked one of the boxes on their bucket list

An unspoilt panoramic vision stretched to the sea

Their picture postcard sculpted garden the key

Where butterflies and wild seabirds roamed free

All enjoyed by our relaxed couple sipping iced tea

The glorious sunset spilt an amber curtain call

Through the conservatory’s glass panelled wall

Creating stunning moments of congenial enthral

Wrapping our loving pair like a comforting shawl

Snuggled comfortably in separate arm chairs

Reflecting special memories they both shared

Announcing to the world a faithful love declared

Without even speaking like a silent sacred prayer

The space between chairs may have been a few feet

But their souls were an entwined singular heartbeat

Their relationship over years had been quite unique

A wonderful example of a couple’s loyalty complete

"Salt fragranced breezes carried a crocosmia kiss"

That was my favourite stanza. It really painted a picture in your head of what it looked like in actuality. Similar stanzas soon followed, making the picture clear in your mind. As well as setting the mood. It was lovely and heartfelt. I enjoyed the rhymes and story-line that you went along. It was a lovely poem.

awwwwwwwwwwwww! do i ever like this one...great sense of rhythm and rhyme ... nothing trite ..syntax easy and as relaxed as your couple together ... and what a wonderful example they are .. to all .. our times with the movies and video and TV have mostly made a shambles of integrity, commitment and faithfulness ... this is a good place for me to sign off ... the fresh salt breezes in my mind and heart ;) nice one Phil!
