Riding a Blue Butterfly

Riding a Blue Butterfly

A Poem by Phill Oz O'fee

If only dreams were possible ..........

Riding a Blue Butterfly

There is only one way

Hitching rides to the sky

That’s upon the soft back

Of a bold blue butterfly

You need to swing out

On a single thin thread

Borrowed from a spider

Across bedding flower heads

Clasp tight with your legs

Encircling its short neck

And whisper soft soothing

To placate the startled insect

Tilting tenderly antenna

Both this way and that

Soaring over meadows

Soon getting the knack

With fluttering excitement

The thrill of the travel

Adrenaline fast pumping

Your not part of the rabble

How the scented pollen dust

Intoxicate innermost psyche

Honey bees whizzing pass

And nodding most politely

And when this adventure

Comes to pleasant end

Thank the aviator politely

For being a good friend

And if you are wondering

How on earth you alight

Fly over a giant mushroom

And jump for your life

This reminds me so much of a fantasy poem I wrote long time ago, (The Dragonfly King), I don't remember exactly the words, but the theme is the same as here, when this dragonfly king flies me on his back and take me into a wondrous journey, a way to escape from this life, a release... what I like about this poem is not only it's words, but what lays behind them... I feel loneliness, emptiness, a deep need for a "jump" in life, a changing that's fill with excitement to make You feel alive again, a nice poem, that only the poet trully knows its essence.

Before reviewing, I must stress that Light and I are not related, merely fragile flitterers of freedom!

Your poem is a beautiful and romantic, almost blissful adventure story! What lush language, 'How the scented pollen dust ~ intoxicate innermost psyche.. ' Reading again, perhaps there's a need to search, gently, carefully.. experiencing the highs and lows ... special.

Love the fantasy in this one. The rhythm and rhyme are flawless and the imagery is just adorable. Loved it. Lydi**

Loved this Phil. There is no better example of freedoms I can think of, both in mind and in ink, than letting the imagination run and soar. You have done these admirably, but one question remains...what were you smoking when you wrote this :)

Excellent! Splendid poem with such a delightful and original idea. Hop on the Blue Butterfly's back and off you go! Perfect picture as well. Innocent, bright, adorable...great form, rhythm and rhyme...I will be reading this to my grandboys tonight! Thank you for this Phill!

nothing like landing on a giant mushroom----many people in our lives become that blue butterfly...and we must always thank them for giving us that ride of friendship...that thin thread becomes a very solid, strong rope...from here to eternity.
