Bent River Blues

Bent River Blues

A Chapter by Phillip W Parsons

A menace lurks just outside the door.  Linda  has sen him, through the fish-eye lens of the peephole,  Murky against the dim floral wallpaper.  She is certain he means to kill her.  What she doesn't know is why, and what's he waiting for?
In the hours she has left alive she must fight to survive, arm herself with knowledge and try to identify the vague menace in this unlikely hotel set back into the harsh and lonesome backdrop of Bent River Blues, Kentucky.
Folklore and history are equally likely, equally unreliable and equally deadly here and Linda must fight to solve her own murder before dawn comes hunting and the swamp swallows up all the clues.

"A strange and dark murder-mystery set in an equally dark rural town.  The tension starts from the first glimpse of the tall apparition and just keeps driving deeper.  Like most of Parsons' dreams, the landscape, twisting and ever-changing, plays a major roll.  In this case, the fictional township of Bent River Blues, Kentucky (a state he has never visited) creates an almost impenetrable and inescapable maze that leads the main character back again and again to that little peep-hole and its dark inhabitant." --D.Reamer
