In the End, What Can We Control?A Poem by AventicusA hopeless pathIn the end, what can we control? In the end, what does it matter? In the end, is it worth the final toll? And why are our wills left shattered? A beast creeps around a corner His handler marches on slow His arm forever restraining Until it is time for him to let go What then shall we do in this danger? What can be done to harrow this pain? Is it worth it when our minds are made stranger Transformed by this hard pouring rain The beast only comes closer The handler grinning ear to ear To consume a soul unfettered Stumbling through a fate unclear A short time is given To unravel the tangle of time It does not matter if we succeed For death holds no heart for the sublime And handler now knowing The pursued blind still A great question unanswered As time lunges for the kill © 2019 Aventicus |
