Death Taken Straight

Death Taken Straight

A Poem by Aventicus
"

A poem about addiction.

"

Death taken straight

Inhaled through the skin, the eyes, the nostrils

Strength devouring our hearts

Snarling thorns and dazed apostles

A weaving of crafts

Captivating to the senses

A sharpening of staffs

Piercing natural defenses

A world hidden deep

A life suffocating still

There is no escape from the creep

Of intoxication’s gentle pill

One cannot break the bond

Sever the roots’ penetration

Nor can they hate for long

Within this consuming elation

Freedom, though sweet, is yet myth

Pleasure, though great, is lost

And plunging far into this abyss

Long forgotten is the culling cost

Bent become these spirits

Emptiness fills these souls

Weariness births necessity

As addiction takes its toll

Hands now withered

Eyes now weak

Hearts poisoned, embittered

From feeble wills, rot seeps

With countenance faded

All joy and love torn away

Deposed by evil and jaded

There are no words left to say

Silence encroaching, distorting

The barren land awaits

A final look to the world graying

Death is taken straight
