A Tale of Two Brothers

A Tale of Two Brothers

A Poem by Aventicus
"

An epic of two brothers who took on hell and the devil himself.

"
Shall we go my brother
Into a land darkness filled
Sharing a bond like no other
In which no despair can be instilled

Through good or ill I will be by your side
Even if death were to threaten us
For our love evil cannot hide
And trample our courage in the dust

Together we shall go to battle
Fighting back to back
Slaughtering all evil like cattle
Countering each fearsome attack

Victory shall be ours each day
No creature do I fear
All darkness shall fall in our way
As long as to me you are near

We have conquered much dear friend
But now we must face our greatest threat
I know that we face our end
But we are not finished yet

The Devil has risen to shut out our burning light
He brings with him his demon horde
This indeed shall be our greatest fight
And each foe will fall to our swords

Hark, he sends his first terrible legion
"Take that, you fiends!" we shout
We easily slew each frightful demon
It is seeming to be a rout

Wave after wave, they were sent
All of hell seemed to emptying its halls
Under no demon's strength would we be bent
And each demon under our blade did fall

Finally, Satan shouted "Enough!
I shall deal with these pesky brats
For only I can give them a challenge so tough
That would quickly crush them like gnats"

My Brother and I stood somewhat stunned but wary
As the Devil conjured a whip of flame and a sword of hot steel
We saw that we must surely not tarry
To avoid and counter what wrath Satan would deal

The Devil came swift and strong
The first strokes we did easily deflect
We were hopeful the fight would not last long
And the possibility of our defeat we did reject

The red sword flashed hot
Each swing grew stronger with the Devil's rage
Though we endured and weakness overcame us not
As we carried on to the final battle stage

The whip had left us burned
But these wounds only encouraged us still
That we were not yet to ash turned
Our brotherhood shall overcome Satan's imposing will

"Watch out for his counter and his crippling blows," I yelled
My brother took heed and acted on this strategy
We both fought mightily to be not by Satan felled
Though I sensed he intended some dark tragedy

As the battle progressed and we both grew tired
The Devil saw that he might not win
And a new tactic he sought to acquire
One which hearkened to the lord of sin

Suddenly, my brother was caught up by fiery hands
And as the devil clutched him in his grasp
He was shrouded with shadowy bands
And he gave out a tortured rasp

I was terrified to see this hideous act
I wished to deny what Satan had done
Though, it was a saddening fact
My brother had been made Satan's dark son

Lowered to the ground, my brother was given Satan's sword
It shrunk to fit his grip, though evil power it still contained
As he became one in the Devil's horde
Yet, there was a knowledge that had me more deeply pained

This was the Lord of Liars vile cunning
His work of corruption that had me broken
From this there was no running
A battle with my brother was Beelzebub's black token

I raised my sword and and assumed my position
Not ready to begin this duel
I knew there was no changing it of my own volition
The works of Lucifer are ever cruel

My brother came swiftly without a thought
The fires of hell blazing in his eyes
This was a confrontation he readily sought
For he was victim to sinister lies

Quickly, I dodged his first swing
And prepared for his next move
I stood on the defensive to avoid the sting
Of a blade my soul would remove

I was sorrowed by this clash
My brother I did not wish to harm
My hope of victory he did dash
As by my weakness I was alarmed

Weary from the battle with the dark lord
And depressed to great lengths
A life of glory I could not afford
As I lost all of my strength

My lost brother saw his chance
And took it with the swiftest stroke
I saw his anger through his trance
As he acted through his yoke

Death upon my body came
My soul and chest greatly anguished
But in his face I saw great pain
Seeing the result of his efforts for which he languished

For then the curse had fallen from his mind
And many tears he began to shed
No such other companion as me he would find
Now that I had fallen dead

The Devil gave a maniacal laugh
When he saw the deeds he had done
That he had taken me on my brother's behalf
And that now he had surely won

In a rage my brother took up the Devil's blade
And in a flash he stuck true
Into Lucifer who began to fade
Victory was at last his, he undoubtedly knew

To ash and to the winds the Devil went
My brother came and laid beside me
His life in this world was finally spent
As his soul joined me in a place that was truly free

Thus was the tale of brothers two
Who had fought bravely until the end
And another story will begin anew
Since the the Devil from this world they did send
