For Tomorrow

For Tomorrow

A Poem by C. Michael Kirre

Pace steadily increasing

time rush by so quick

And we, my friends, are but instances in the Great Forever

So, let there then be this one last happy night

Let us fill it, and ourselves, with the drink

that makes us smile and laugh and dance

and enjoy the Good Company of friends of the Here and Now

And then, beyond the night

let it sound the gleeful yawp of morning

as these and those memories cement themselves

In our personal journals

Thus let this night of our Good Company

Stand as the symbol of out youthful freedoms

And those last truly enjoyable moments

So, let us set this city ablaze once more, my friends

Once more ablaze for ourselves of tomorrow

So that, when our souls fly free, this night shall be the wings

upon which it soars up and beyond the Great Forever
