cabin feverA Poem by Phibby Venable
It was irreverant and odd the way we burned our mountain in a stove fire and prayed the loggers off our land We took only enough wood to keep the home fires burning but even that was a complication There was a threatening red living in the core of our family unsponsored rages against the harsh needle points of snow Some years the hollow splashed the sensual lust of alcohol there was no place to go no excitement at all locked into icy, narrowed roads It was only in summer and the birth of many newborns that we were finally able to mock the cold © 2011 Phibby VenableReviews
