On The Line

On The Line

A Poem by Phibby Venable
"

for my mother

"

I can't bear the way you turn toward
the wind of gravity;
Your eyes too wide to be secure,
too desperate to be safe.
I whisper to you, look this way,
I lend you my eyes.
I struggle against your bewilderment.
Each of us trying to press
white sheets against a bellow of wind
whipping our faces to tears.

essence sublime.

I didn't find this as flowing as most of you work but it has great images. I don't know if "bewilderment" is ever a word that should be used in such a short work. I love the ending becausing it has happened to me on Lands End in England.

we walk these paths alone, sometimes friends watching from the distance, our community in their eyes

Short in words, but as big as the damn universe. A whole lotta good in a small package.
