Into A Fire I BuiltA Poem by Phibby VenableInto a fire I built, I fell. Had I not found a flowering branch caught in the trembling red of flame, I might have dropped eternally. So like the branch a dove once brought, in hint of land, to Noah's boat. Tranquility seemed fine enough. I fell into a fire, and yet, no burns occurred, I was not hurt. Forgiveness lay safe in the flowers. The bough that found its way through fire, meant it was useless to complain, about the rage of broken things. So I stepped out and looked for miles. I saw that faces hoped to smile, but sometimes life would intervene in lightning strikes that burned frail beings. I flung my hands out, freed my sight, from stifled dreams and great regrets. I watched the ways of mourning doves. and grasped the fortitude of birds. © 2010 Phibby Venable |
