Seagirl

Seagirl

A Poem by Phibby Venable

Seagirl

A Caucasian seagirl, with heady intent,
of southern flight, lifts off on Route 1,
in a wingspan of inner flight,
swinging wide at full speed.
She is lost in majesty.
She is in the mainstream of her personal dream,
and glides the coastline in an attitude,
of total agility.
The way she dips so closely to the road,
the pavement could be water,
the pavement could be rock.
See how she rises, without anchor, in an inner video,
that plays the sun on her back,
the water at her side,
the world of shells, opening,
in a welcome to her flight.
In the flophouse of a palm, she pauses.
Her map falls open in a swerve
of inner places.
She steadies herself to leap, in jump rope precision,
into the fastest current that passes her tree.
She is the blood of blue skies.
She is the debutante of new breezes.
She is the arrowhead of God, flying free.

Great writing!
I could almost picture this mysterious sea girl, how she moves with grace and agility and her confidence and freedom.

Very nice peace... what i liked the most is the imagination in it that took my breath for a while!

It is just so nice to go---just to go alone,
for a time along a coast.
Memories fade and the travel is light.
The PCH in California served me well.

Excellent!

Taking flight on the wings of faith so you can see farther then what is right in front of you... a very intellectual piece of writing with a certain majestic feel.

Seagirl/seagull, all white and in flight. The repetition of the repetition is a wonderful device, and used judiciously--and who else would ever come up with an image like "the flophouse of a palm"? Wonderful, wonderful writing

I'll bet you thought we couldn't follow you into this dimension. See, girl, you can't get away; not with these poems to be writ.
