Ghost Whisperers Once Walked the Earth

trying to write a Villanelle

Ghost Whisperers

Ghost whisperers once walked the earth
and doors were locked and bolted fast
In villages that hid their mirth
and silenced children from their birth
with frightened tales of dead souls past
Ghost whisperers once walked the earth
A flow in tattered blouse or shirt
Each more hideous than the last
In villages that hid their mirth
and gave the horrid souls wide berth
but felt their cold, a rigid blast
Ghost whisperers once walked the earth
death made a mockery of their girth
their death grin hollow eyed and vast
In villages that hid their mirth
and pressed their faces to the dirt
to hide in prayer till they were past
Ghost whisperers once walked the earth
In villages that hid their mirth

It has an endlessness about it as though it could go on even more and inlude more. It is sufficient as it is and works well.

It may not be a classic villanelle in form, but I think breaking this into short stanzas would do the piece significant harm, anyway; it has a narrative that villanelle just wouldn't support. You carry off the rhyme effortlessly, and the narrative itself is excellent.

Don't know much bout the style you are trying but the poem itself i do like the poem... the repetitive nature added to charisma and charm of it.
