Here you are again, filled with positive energy,
so that I have to dredge up some enthusiasm
Your new paramour, an open book, of meditation,
a living book review of the self help industry.
There are just some days that I hate
to be optimistic, wouldn't you know, sunshine
would arrive today, way too early and eating
all the air out of the kitchen with glee.
It is futile to battle your energy, which makes mine
droop slack lipped in a straight back chair,
determined to be the friend I know I can be,
if I can just get enough coffee
if I can just lift that blind, pull it to the top,
let in your golden sister, force myself
to listen blindly, in a squint of goodwill.
But then, it always becomes infectuous, and there really is no innoculation for it. Enthusiasm is something we all like to catch and it is as contagious as H1N1. Your poetry is like chicken soup.
Oh, boy. I think I've been in your shoes before. Maybe a lot of us have, in fact. I hate to mention the slightly humorous aspect because I know its serious, arduous work to be a friend sometimes, but it is there, isn't it? Hang in there, Phibby--I truly believe you'll be rewarded one day.
Wow, this was amazing.
I even read it twice..haha.
I love the lines:
"...determined to be the friend I know I can be,
if I can just get enough coffee..."
Brilliant! :D
