Dog Days of River Dancing

Dog Days of River Dancing

A Poem by Phibby Venable

Dog Days of River Dancing

Sirius rages across the city,
in a sultry atmosphere of heat.
My friends that bought by the river
have grown appealing & today
I mark a cool descent down the riverbank
where the wet roots overhang into the water.
I slide down the cold branches & I can see
the waves of stagnant heat above,
but not with me & not on me,
only the cool mud & the river dance
that I carry inside.
I overthrow inhibitions & squeeze my toes
into the ooze between the rocks.
I step from stone to stone
to the beat of the water wind.
Tadpoles enter my dance floor as contestants.
Small fish leap to the top of their sky.
I release the clinging hot boundaries
of the sun above me.
A blue green aqua band beats
away the shore.

I think you must be that fabled hunter poet, always armed, always on the lookout. With simple turns of phrase you turn simple moments into pauses that refresh. Congratulations...

This could be anywhere in history. It could be equally the Nile or the Seine. That is its strength. It speaks to all.

The images are very strong with thre demention. I love the way you enter woven the care free times we all have thought oof in our childhood. I still see run on sentences as a major part of this work. Please understand that there is nothing wrong your style it is just a pet peeve of mine. The flow is wonderful but the way I read the work is old fashion which breaks the speed for me. But Lord bless you, you have captured the magic of the human experance. I really like this very much.

Very nice, vivid imagery here.
While reading it, I felt like I was the narrator!
Well done =-)
Thanks for sharing!
