And Guess What!

And Guess What?!

This is Charles in the backseat
claiming super hero status
And Guess What!
He killed a monster
just as it slipped up behind him
And Guess What!
He stomped the incredible hulk
and he wears a spider man costume
better than spider man
And in the front seat
I think of his mother
the way she sold him out
for crack and tabs
and a young guy in tight jeans
up at the Super Gas station
And Guess What!
She only dropped by once
in the last two years
to take him to McDonald's
but they didn't eat inside
They were back in 30 minutes
with Charles holding a plastic toy
and a big smile
with Charles holding the memory
like a trophy these last few months
and watching
all the slim, tall blondes on the street
Now Charles is searching the car
He says, I spy with my little eye!
And it is something orange or red
and I will never guess it
But I already know
it is something blue
something so sad and terrible
that I can't bear for him to see it
And Guess What!
Charles with his trusting eyes
is a champion of heart.

you paint pictures of love, even where there isn't any...

it sounds like charles is a the speekers brother or the speeker is his father and the mother walked out on them and now all chales has is the speeker. Charles is very brave. excelent write!
