A Poem by Phibby Venable

Encounters

In an encounter with physical beauty,
energy suspends itself in study.
Some for a measure of approach,
some to dwell on lovely.
I advocate a quiet approach
where all is slow but pulses.
I fancy a stoic countenance
that erupts in acts of pleasure.
A slow sift through a wary glance.
A small dance of rebuttal.
The bare crisscross of easy touch
when the playing field is level.
