This Is A Secret

This Is A Secret

A Poem by Phibby Venable

This Is A Secret

This is a secret hidden by the snow.
A warm wind is packing up
a continent away
It dreams of a southern vacation.
The lilacs have bulbed up nicely
in their rumpled hills.
The yellow bell bush flickers
with many brown eyes.
When she opens them,
it will be Spring.
As for me, I am pulling optimism
out of a mouse hole.
I caught it by the tail
before it disappeared.

and it snows again! Better, I guess, than thunderstorms and tornadoes. . .

optimism is in short supply on days as cold as today, but thinking out loud, I suppose it is up to us to find the light and share it.
