![]() breaking lightA Poem by Phibby Venable
breaking light
there is a light at high morning
and I am sleeping in
so I grope for the shade rope
but it all falls down
shade, rope, thin curtain
and the sun is in now
so I am more awake
than I wanted, but still,
there is something to be said
for the cutting of dark
for the crash of morning
to an open view
and my dog is barking
as though the sun is a burglar
and he is a hero intent
to save the soft darkness
as the light, sacred and sure
reveals small webs
and dust particles
in a slow dance
to the white noise of the fan
if I could be a particle
I would rise upwards
into the sudden day
as fragile as a promise
and graceful in the absence
of anything substantial
I would drift into the existence
of a sunbeam jaunt
and hitch a ride on the wing
of a perfect angel
to fly far away
past a deity or two
then wander in the glisten
of a thousand star cities
each one familiar
all of them blue.
