Carousel

A Poem by Phibby Venable

Carousel

See that the fair is back in town
Look how the carousel turns about
I love the painted pony rides
The lovely wideness of the eyes
He needs no pastures, only this
A constant spin of friendliness
I ride his hard back, watch the lights
the candy colors glow at night
And I will do most anything
to ride the pony, hold the ring
I close my eyes to feel the chill
of wind that spins on flattened wheels
And I control his run and trot
until abruptly, my horse stops.
