The Snow

The Snow

A Poem by Phibby Venable

The Snow

There is the snow.
A winter patch to bandage things
Look how nicely that it sweeps
a cleaner lineage to this place
All disorder suddenly neat.
Broken appliances, abandoned cars
dead grass & old limbs in the yard
All white and pure and clean at last.
I am not going anywhere
I stay at home away from slides
Away from all that's uncontrolled
I do not want to mar the snow
I want one day that lies in white
I want a spiritual thought and nod
from all the clean hands of the gods
I do not want to leave a track
across the wide expanse of white.

To leave everything untouched, virginal. Not to slide to be in control. This explains so much about me, only better

The expance is never trackless but oh how we wish it could be. I saw my Granddaughter see snow for the first time last year. She didn't know what it was so like all children she waded right out into it and has never forgotten shoes again. Ha! I really like this work. It brings back great memories.
