Sun Flowers Wide Open

Sun Flowers Wide Open

A Poem by Phibby Venable

When I walk down this road
the dirt lifts
in softly powdered puffs
of brown

Standing before the trees
are sunflowers wide open
in an expression
of golden curiousity

Almost gaudy in rich color
and leaning sideways
with faces
twisting toward the tops
of tall trees that stand
richly protective

The flowers are looking
for the sun
but the trees believe
the sun
lives in yellow gold

My mothers favorite flowers. I bought her some "Monet's Palette" sunflowers one year. I always favored the peach gladiolus.

A beautiful vision create by your words. I like the see the sunflowers growing wild and the trees reaching for the sun. Your lines above were my favorite. Thank you for the amazing poetry.

hmmm.. sunflowers almost gaudy in, rich color...leaning sideways...reminds me of a painter who painted such and brings this picture as well to mind when I view your prose...Laury

Oh this is a picture from my past. A Gaugin painting in primary colours but with subtle meaning.
