cinnamon & spice

cinnamon & spice

A Poem by Phibby Venable
"

young relative on drugs

"
Morning High

I say you are angelic and beautiful
your hug, skeletal, hanging
onto the scent of my praise, eyes
cinnamon with red icing
your hair swinging sweet soap
and cigarette smoke -
eyes brighter than God gives,
 lips a slurred fumble
of multiple kisses
& gratitude

And I love
the leftover child of you
wandering the blur of valleys
your cheekbones too large
for the skin remaining
your heart a totem , clenched
shut in the arms of a world
that holds you in contempt
for floating
pass the roughness of its'
ridicule
and indifferent hands

Thank you Ed!
onto the scent of my praise, eyes
cinnamon with red icing
your hair swinging sweet soap

lips a slurred fumble
of multiple kisses
& gratitude

Those are some of the most original and creative ways of describing someone high on drugs... seeing aloved one like this is tough and there is only so much we can do to help till they are ready to help themselves.

thank you, that is very true.
It is the visuals in your pieces engender that surprise and delight me every time. But then, he added, I go beyond to the story thats always there. And that is poignant in the extreme.
