In the mirror you smooth your hair

In the mirror you smooth your hair

A Poem by Phibby Venable

In the mirror you smooth your hair

a satellite records the weather
on a tv I never wanted in the bedroom
Outside the sun is a hidden beacon
raining on continents and turning
into a world of downpours
I am a balm of suggestions
but you are impatient and vague
in the moodiness of morning
Your agenda is a stopwatch
that failed to time the rain and the gray
restlessness of what you meant to do;
in town, in daylight, in good weather
I dream poignantly of saying good bye
The gist of myself relaxing back
into who I am without you
I am ready to be awake to morning
but the rain is seductive and erases
everything I need to do
In another moment you are a shadow
in the veins behind my eyes
I ride the minuscule lines to sleep

One way to kill a relationship is to get in to a routine and make it predictable, that is like throwing water on the fire of passion. Your poetry is always top notch.
