In Season

 

Long ago I fell in love with seasons
and pitched a soft woo to greenery,
to snow, to leaves leaping in a colorful
death, the way I would like to go

These days I slow my pace and gentle
dearness into my voice
I listen to the rain in ballads and think
the snow a lovely white game

Sometimes I am a daffodil
well past the yellow fluff of flowering,
my heart and head separating in pieces
seeking only to rise, to fly
